Restore

A personal retreat in southern Spain

When peacebuilders and other humanitarian field staff take a "break," it often does not provide the deep rest needed for their resilience. While reflection is by its nature an individual process, it is not always meant to be a solitary one. True restoration that rebuilds the mind, body, and soul is often best achieved in community. Petra provides that community at our Resilience Center in Malaga, Spain, a sunny and convenient location for intentional breaks during any season of the year.

One of the most common issues facing aid workers — no matter what the country, agency, or contract — is long hours and burnout. Petra Peacebuilders provides personalized services and strategies that inspire self-care and personal vision, and in turn co-labor to create happier, more productive personnel who can then influence the societies around them.

Rest and reflect in community

Restore offers you an option to rest in a community where you are valued, championed, and individually cared for, with in-built reflective practice to nourish the soul. Your most critical needs are assessed prior to arrival. The self-care practices, life-giving activities, and healthy meals and interactions that make up the Restore program are then tailored to meet these needs so that you can return to their fieldwork truly refreshed and restored. Restore can accommodate both individuals and groups of up to 10.

Our Resilience Center is situated right on the Mediterranean in southern Europe–Malaga, Spain, to be exact. Malaga has easy access to Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, making it a convenient place for both you and us to travel to and from. Spain is famous for its sunny weather, convenient location, warm culture, and great food.

As a peacemaker and restorative practices practitioner, I treasure the preventive investment required to keep sacrificial peacebuilders thriving and engaged in their costly but vital work. Petra comes alongside to support, encourage, engage, and equip aid workers, peacebuilders, and their families to maximize their passion for peace and growth in a sustainable way.
